Authority Profits is about adopting an attitude of leading your industry, which is a far stronger approach than simply leading your business.
Customers want to know why you are different, and it is perfectly fine to say because you are the best, but this is pretty lame if it is not backed up. A mission-based statement creates a world focused on a worthy objective.
My willingness to lead the industry has seen me chair trade associations, help punch above my weight (have you met my wife), hire and retain some of the most capable talent, and cause customers to seek me out.
Incoming clients have helped my business supply custom solutions and benefit from price elasticity. Plus, I am not dependent on one big customer. It is a lot of fun.
The Big, Hairy, Audacious, Goal.
When I first heard the term BHAG, I simply thought - oh, that, well, I lead the industry already, so I got that. In hindsight, I realise this was a little presumptive, but it does tell me I was already thinking the right way, and I found the BHAG a small jump.
My BHAG is to show 10,000 CEOs that they can and should lead their industry too.
I can’t possibly talk to every CEO, but I can share what it is and try to inspire. That is the purpose of this newsletter.
Authority Profits
The newsletter is called Authority Profits, as when you focus on leading the industry, you end up demonstrating and proving your authority.
Authority itself is earned, it is not given.
Many are so focused on what they sell, raising capital, managing resources, fending off the bureaucracy, or a myriad of other things, that their ability to focus on customer needs is diminished and often outsourced to a sales and marketing director or street-level vendor.
For authority to be earned, it needs to be practiced, and the good news is that it is neither too difficult nor surprising. Most of the ‘required activity’ is to be expected. The opportunity is based on the fact that most CEOs miss the opportunity.

About Me
I’ve spent my career helping people and businesses become leaders in their field, and along the way, I’ve been fortunate enough to earn some recognition myself.
My agency grew to over 60 employees, working with an A-to-Z of star clients from Adobe, Baume & Mercier, Citibank, Disney, Ernst & Young, Ford, IWC, Piaget, Purdey, Rightmove, Xerox, Universal, and Vacheron Constantin to mention just a few. I’ve always found that authority—built through expertise, communication, and confidence—holds the key to success, and that’s exactly what I’ve helped my clients achieve.
Beyond my business achievements, I’ve had the honour of winning a Best Sellers Quill from the Academy of Award-Winning Writers, which I picked up at The Hollywood Roosevelt. I also chaired the IAB (Internet Advertising Bureaux) UK and later the European Search Task Force, where I set advertising standards that still impact the industry today.
